First Instagram 2022 Trend Report

Instagram has published its first guide regarding upcoming trends that will develop in 2022 and will be defined by the Gen-Z. It has touched into the minds of Gen-Z to realm more about rising trends that come across music, fashion, creators and celebrities, beauty, social justice and more. With all these all, Instagram has published its first-ever trend report for 2022.  Instagram thinks that next-gen audiences are consistently creating the future and defining trends on Instagram. 

Instagram represents the place where teens, creators, tastemakers and niche communities are key to the creation of new trends. 

This trend report was created in tandem with a next-gen video in which cultural reporter and Darian Symone Harvin sat down with a handful of influential Gen-Zers themselves to talk about all things trends. 

Fashion & Beauty

A lot of people, especially young people, are making big moves with their style choices. They use fashion as a vehicle for joy, optimism and self-expression. Instagram Trends Report says that in 2022 will grow clean beauty with minimal products and safer ingredients. As people are more aware of how and what they put on their bodies and skin. 

Shopping

In 2022, Instagram Shopping will be more popular and used. A lot of people are buying online through second-hand websites or in-app features. Lots of teens and young adults are expecting to contribute more to clothing sustainability by selling their own goods through an online store or social media in 2022,

Music & Dance

Music now is very social and all musical experiences are set to increase on non-traditional music platforms like Instagram. A lot of albums were released and will be released in 2022. For a few years, visual streams have been toyed with by artists and the pandemic helped make these more mainstream. Around 24% of Instagram Users are more likely to be excited about visual music experiences in 2022 while about 1 in 4 teens and young adults expect to like stream concerts/visual album releases in 2022. 

Dance challenges are also here to stay and more than 1 in 3 teens are more excited to see a lot of dance challenges in 2022. 

Celebrities & Creators

When it comes to influence and impact, online influencers continue to grow and become more popular on Instagram. A lot of creators have as much influence as online influencers have. Creators have risen to the level of a-list celebrities. 

Nowadays young people are easily impacted by a wide spectrum of creators and their relationship is more tightly aligned around shared interests and less so on how popular they have gotten. 

Career & Education

The pandemic affected education and careers as well. A lot of teens are rethinking all aspects of their lives and goals. Around 90% of Gen-Z audiences believe that the best education comes from real world experiences and given how much college costs. They are also unwilling to allow their jobs to fully consume them and very aware of the dangers this brings. 

Food

A lot of people are continuing to invest in experimenting in their kitchen by trying complex recipes and intricate cooking techniques. They are trying to cook and bake something new, by experimenting and changing with different ingredients and recipes. 

Wellness

At-home workouts were very popular in 2021 and these are expected to be popular in 2022 as well. A lot of people are looking to continue their mental health and wellness journeys and develop their creative sides such as: drawing, painting, collaging, writing music and books etc. Besides that, people are looking to improve their home by making them more eco-friendly. This thing will be more popular in 2022. 

Gaming

Video games were never slowed down even during quarantine. Young people are spending a lot of time playing video games. Games represent a new social platform that fuels deep connections and escapism in a unique and fantastical way. In 2022, Games are planning to become more popular and advertising.
